Bio

Abdoulaye Sounaye is a senior research fellow at Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient of Berlin, Germany. He works on Salafism in Niger and West Africa and finishing a manuscript that examines youth religiosity in urban context in Niger, focusing on their preaching practices. He has been working on Islam in West Africa for more than a decade and is particularly interested in the ways in which religious dynamics affect community formation and sociopolitical interactions. In addition to the dynamics of contemporary Islam, he is also conducting research on the interactions between Muslims and Christians. He has published extensively on Islam in Niger. His most recent publication is Islam et Modernité: Contribution à l'analyse de la ré-islamisation au Niger, Paris, L’Harmattan, 2016
