Explanations for violent crime in England and Wales: Literature Review Commissioned by the North Wales Police Department - UK
abstract
This work reviews existing literature on explanations for violent crime focusing on England and Wales. The review centres on why violent crime happens, who are the victims and offenders of violent crime, as well as when violent crime occurs. Given the complexity of violent crime, the paper briefly examines hate crime related violence, alcohol/drug use related violence, gang violence and robbery. Subsequent parts examine biological, structural, psychological, behavioural, as well as situational and temporal factors in explanations of violent crime.
