The Middle East and North African (MENA) region has historically suffered from various forms of violent extremism and terrorism, and there are a number of different
terrorist groups operating in the region. In the current context, the rise of Daesh has been one of the main security concerns for MENA governments, populations and communities. Daesh’s ability to recruit from the populations of the MENA region has been alarming; a large number of foreign terrorist fighters, for example, have come from MENA countries.
