Research Priorities Working Group: North Africa and the Sahel

Summary

Between July 18-19, 2018, the RESOLVE Network, in partnership with the West African Research Center (WARC), hosted an in-region working group on the development of a P/CVE relevant research agenda for North Africa and the Sahel in Dakar, Senegal. The working group, the latest in the RESOLVE Network Charting Research Priorities series, brought together over 30 researchers, practitioners, and policymakers with expertise in local governance, development, and the P/CVE research landscape in North Africa and the Sahel for two days of presentations, discussions, and break-out working group sessions.

The goals and outcomes of the working group were:

  • To craft the next research agenda for the study of violent extremism in North Africa and the Sahel;
  • To bring together relevant researchers, practitioners, and policymakers working on P/CVE in the geographic areas of interest to share ideas and insights, identify research gaps, and brainstorm future research projects, and connect to RESOLVE and spawn future collaborative endeavors;
  • To socialize the work of RESOLVE and RESOLVE’s USAID-funded research in the Lake Chad Basin with relevant stakeholders and present preliminary findings.

The working group was under the Chatham House Rule.
