Developing the Next Research Agenda for the Study of Violent Extremism in the Western Balkans

Between April 10-12, 2019, the RESOLVE Network, in partnership with the U.S. Institute of Peace, Forum MNE, and the Kosovar Centre for Security Studies, held an invitation-only expert working group in Podgorica, Montenegro. As part of the RESOLVE Network Western Balkans research initiative, this working group explored future trends and developed new, collaborative research agendas for the study of violent extremism in the Western Balkans by facilitating the transfer of knowledge and expertise among regional experts and key stakeholders.

Over the course of two days, participants worked together to identify:

• Priority research questions and project designs;
• Opportunities for potential collaboration on research and evidence-based programming;
• Countries and geographic areas that may need greater investment in research; and
• Challenges of research implementation and possible solutions.
