What We're Reading

June 2020 | Racially and Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremism (REMVE)

This month, RESOLVE highlights recommended readings from our Racially and Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremism (REMVE) project. REMVE ideologies feed off perceived grievances and persecution among in-group members, metastasize quickly, and are easily stoked by global economic and social events. As racial and ethnic divides continue to receive global attention and societies strive to push back against nationalist and xenophobic VE, understanding the characteristics and international connections between REMVE groups has become increasingly important. These selected readings analyze the dynamics of how racial and ethnic supremacy movements are spread around the world, provide helpful insights into the changing features of extremism, and make recommendations for addressing the threat of REMVE ideology.
