Bio

As a Research Fellow with the Centre of Excellence for National Security at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Joseph examines terrorist networks in maritime Southeast Asia and best practices in countering violent extremism. Veering away from overly securitized notions of countering violent extremism (CVE) and counterinsurgency (COIN), Joseph believes in addressing non-ideological drivers of conflict. Over the years, Joseph has organized international countering extremism and radicalization workshops that brought together policymakers, practitioners, and academics. He regularly conducts field research in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao. Aside from COIN and CVE, Joseph has also done consulting work in the fields of strategic communications and Asia-Pacific security. He has years of stakeholder engagement experience, bridging the gap even between antagonistic sectors of society.
